Fresh manure cannot be used to treat beets: its use makes the roots coarse and nitrates accumulate in them. The plant’s immunity to fungal diseases also decreases.

Fertilizers for beets

For active growth of beets, it needs superphosphate. You can add only it under the plant at the rate of 50 g per 1 sq.m. But if you want to diversify the feeding, then treat the beets with a special composition. To do this, dissolve 1 tbsp. potassium magnesium sulfate, 1 tbsp. superphosphate, 1 tsp. urea, 1/2 tsp. boric acid and 1 g of potassium permanganate in 10 liters of water. After feeding, sprinkle the aisles with ash and water with clean water.

In a rainy summer, beets may begin to wither due to a lack of nitrogen, which is washed out of the soil. At the first signs, treat the plant with a solution of 1 teaspoon of urea dissolved in 5 liters of water.

Watering beets

To make beets tastier, they need to be fed with table salt three times per season at a rate of 15-20 g per 10 liters of water. The first salt feeding of beets in open ground should be carried out after the formation of 6 true leaves, the second – when the root crop begins to rise above the ground, the third – two weeks after the second feeding.

This treatment is only suitable for beets and will be detrimental to other plants, so make sure that the salt does not get on neighboring beds.

When treating beets with a solution of table salt, it is better to combine root and foliar feeding. For convenience, use a watering can.

Treating beets with a solution of table salt helps combat sodium deficiency, which manifests itself as reddening of the leaves.

Between root dressings, it is also advisable to additionally spray the beets. A solution of 1/2 teaspoon of boric acid, 1/4 teaspoon of iodine and 1 g of potassium permanganate, diluted in 10 liters of water, is ideal for this.
