Feeding turkeys with compound feed

Good afternoon. Today we will talk about feeding turkeys with compound feed when fattening for meat. Turkeys are large poultry that have taken an important place in the overall picture of agriculture in the country. They are a good source of large quantities of meat. They are bred by ordinary residents of rural areas who have their own farms, as well as large poultry farms.

A big advantage of turkeys over other poultry is their high growth rate.

With proper balanced nutrition, the indicators are really very high. How to ensure such nutrition?

1. The first thing you should think about is what kind of feed for turkeys to choose and how to use it correctly.

It should be taken into account that different feeds should be used depending on the age of the bird. According to the growing periods, all compound feeds are divided into three types: growth, fattening and finishing. When is it most rational to use which one?

2. Growing feed It is best to start using it from the moment of birth until the bird reaches approximately 12-13 weeks of age. The daily amount of feed during this period is from 25-40 to 250-300 grams, depending on age. There is no particular sense in using it further, because turkeys have new nutritional needs.

3. Fattening feed is used for active weight gain of young animals. Its daily norm is approximately 500 g per bird. Such feed is maximally saturated with nutrients. Due to its use, significant weight gain is achieved in a short time (sometimes the figures reach 17 kg).

4. Finishing compound feed for turkeys is used at the final stage of rearing. The amount of feed per bird per day reaches 600 grams. Thanks to its use, the final weight of an adult turkey can reach 25 kilograms, which is a very good result, isn’t it?

Naturally, it is not possible to achieve maximum growth and weight gain using only compound feed.

5. The conditions in which the bird is kept also play an important role. Keeping them in cramped cages has a negative effect on the health of the birds. Turkeys are very freedom-loving. Failure to comply with the standards of keeping them leads to a deterioration in appetite, illness, slow growth and even death.

6. It should also be taken into account that different manufacturers offer different quality of their feed. Accordingly, the price also differs. You should choose based on your own needs and financial capabilities. Remember that the most expensive feed is not a guarantee of success, but saving is not a solution either.

Cheap feeds, as a rule, do not provide a complete diet. The best option is the average price range. In most cases, mixed feed for turkeys of average cost includes all the necessary elements necessary for good growth and weight gain.

Feeding turkeys with compound feed is probably the easiest way to fatten them for meat. But not cheap! Yuri Aristov, Belarus, shared his opinion.
