Zabrus, or honey seal — a beekeeping product that remains after cutting off the top (lids) of sealed honeycombs. Literally, this is what is located behind the hive frame bar.
The composition of the capping is wax. It is with wax that bees seal the honeycombs.
Features
Honey bees seal the honey in the combs with wax caps when it is already ripe. Thus, the honey seal is a clear indicator of the ripeness of the honey in the combs.
Before pumping out honey, beekeepers remove the cappings with a special apiary knife, roller or fork and leave them on a grid to allow the honey to drain off, or give them to the bees to remove the remaining honey.
The resulting dry capping is melted in wax melters into wax or sold as a special product. The capping produces the highest quality wax.
The color of the capping wax depends on the time of year, weather conditions and the type of bees. Thus, during the non-bribery period (in autumn or when feeding bees with sugar syrup), the cappings from old wax have a brown color.
Usually the capping is white and opaque due to the air layer between the honey in the honeycomb cell and the cap. The capping of Caucasian bees is dark (the so-called “wet seal”) – the honey and caps are adjacent to each other without an air layer.
Sweetish-honey taste, when chewed the mass crumbles into small lumps. As a rule, the wax in the capping differs in composition from the honeycomb.
Composition
The seal contains:
- beeswax;
- comb honey;
- propolis;
- pollen;
- salivary gland enzymes.
Each of these components individually has great medicinal value, but together their effectiveness is increased many times over.
The list of “chemical” components looks more impressive:
- vitamins of various groups;
- fat, protein;
- resins, carbohydrates;
- enzymes;
- ethers, balms;
- sugar, etc.
The composition of the capping includes substances that are practically absent in honey itself. One of them is lysozyme. This is an enzyme that provides antibacterial protection to all bees.
In the human body, it is responsible for the activity of local immunity, blocks infections in the main areas: eyeballs, nasopharynx, skin, genitals, bronchi, lungs.
The safest natural products with a high concentration of lysozyme are breast milk and bee cappings.
Honey, after cutting off the cap, contains only five percent of the enzyme, but the seal contains about 90. This is because it has a light specific gravity. In the cell, it collects at the top and when cut off, remains on the cap.
If we calculate the concentration of lysozyme, we get the following picture: The substance in the seal is 20 times more than in the honeycomb, and 150 times more than in honey. The composition of honey products contains many substances that have not yet been determined, not identified. Science has not yet solved this mystery.
Useful Properties
Zabrus copes well with pathogenic bacteria. Its use is justified for the treatment of many viral and infectious diseases.
It has a number of qualities that are present in other honey products to a lesser extent:
- antiseptic, analgesic;
- restoring;
- anti-inflammatory, antiviral;
- general tonic, immunostimulating.
Most often, honeycomb caps are used as a preventative measure against colds.
However, folk and traditional medicine recommend using beeswax to treat a number of diseases:
- Problems in the oral cavity. The seal strengthens the gums. Their bleeding decreases. The light massage effect and disinfection help in the treatment of periodontosis. The wax “chewing gum” cleans from plaque, protects against caries, heals ulcers in stomatitis.
- Recovery in case of sinusitis, runny nose, bronchitis, tonsillitis, tracheitis it happens much faster. It helps to relieve unpleasant sensations, sore throat and nasal congestion.
- Blood vessels are cleansed and strengthened, blood circulation is normalized, metabolism is improved.
- Intestinal motility is normalized, metabolic processes are adjusted, microflora is restored. The production of gastric juice increases. Unpleasant symptoms of gastritis, colitis and digestive disorders quickly disappear.
- Viral infectious diseases. The product is excellent for the prevention and treatment of acute respiratory viral infections, acute respiratory infections, flu, etc.
- Diseases of the dermis. The product is included in medicinal creams for acne and boils, irritations, wounds, burns. Beeswax in cosmetology is present in masks, ointments, scrubs, balms. Biologically active components nourish and rejuvenate the skin.
- Problems of the musculoskeletal system. Stops pain, relieves inflammation. Zabrus prevents the progression of the disease, which means the dosage of “chemical” drugs is reduced. Beeswax is effective as an additional treatment for osteochondrosis, arthritis, radiculitis. It is used in the form of rubbing, compresses and ointment.
- Not addictive pathogenic microflora.
- Suppression of immune responses. The body’s natural defenses are restored and strengthened.
- Disorders of the nervous system. Honey seal has a calming effect in case of overexcitement, copes well with depressive and neurasthenic symptoms. Helps with insomnia.
- Problems with excess weight. “Chewing gum” reduces appetite, replaces sweets, accelerates the absorption of fats, and removes toxins.
Application
Over many centuries, folk medicine has acquired a wealth of experience in treating various pathologies, strengthening the body, and improving the general condition. The library of home recipes contains a lot of useful advice.
Maintaining immunity
Apitherapy specialists recommend using the seal to boost immunity. It is advisable to start the procedures before the onset of the cold season. To achieve a lasting result, chew the capping cap several times a day, 1 spoon at a time.
The course duration is more than one month. Chewing for 7-8 minutes gives time for the beneficial substances to be absorbed. If some wax is accidentally swallowed, there is nothing to worry about. It will not cause harm to the body. It is easily excreted through the intestines. Usually, the remains of the wax are thrown away.
For runny nose and sinusitis
A spoonful of bee product six to eight times a day will help stop profuse nasal discharge. After two days, when the disease has subsided, you can take the remedy for prevention. A dose for several days is enough. Such therapy alleviates the condition quite quickly.
Sinusitis is treated completely and without complications at the initial stage thanks to the capping. In order to get rid of the unpleasant symptoms of the disease, you need to chew the capping every hour on a spoon. Throw away the “chewing gum” when it becomes like tasteless wax.
7-9 procedures are required per day. The symptoms of the disease disappear completely within three days. In the treatment of acute and chronic sinusitis, the bee product is an excellent addition to the main therapy.
Normalization of blood circulation
The capping is also widely used to normalize blood circulation. This, in turn, directly affects overall well-being in winter. So, if your hands and feet are constantly cold, which indicates insufficient blood circulation, it’s time to resort to the help of the capping!
For the stomach
Honeycomb capping is a great way to bring the gastrointestinal microflora in order. It normalizes the digestion process, suppresses the action of pathogenic microbes and harmful bacteria, relieves heartburn, constipation, heaviness in the stomach and other troubles. If you feel unwell after a feast, honeycomb capping will help you!
For teeth and oral cavity
The health of the gums directly affects the condition of the throat and digestive organs. It is not for nothing that children are taught to use hygiene products from an early age.
The capping cap significantly facilitates the procedure of cleaning the oral cavity. To do this, it is enough to chew a small amount of bee medicine after each meal. Wax caps clean the teeth from food debris, disinfect the oral mucosa.
Apitherapy specialists recommend using the remedy for certain diseases, such as:
- periodontal disease;
- caries;
- inflammation;
- stomatitis;
- gingivitis.
The substances contained in the bee medicine help strengthen the gums, remove plaque, and relieve inflammation.
For pollen allergies
Spring is a wonderful time of year. However, many people are deprived of peace and a full life during this period. Pollen of flowering plants, causing an allergic reaction, brings many difficult minutes. Zabrus can significantly alleviate the course of the disease and even slow it down.
It is recommended to start using the preparation several weeks before the flowering of those green plantings that cause such conditions. The product should be chewed after each meal for another two to three weeks.
The bee product contains a small amount of pollen. However, the allergen is so small that it does not cause unpleasant symptoms. It only reduces sensitivity to the reagent. By chewing the cappings, a person gets used to this substance and the body no longer reacts to it.
For the prevention of ARVI
In the autumn-winter period, if there is a risk of contracting the flu or a viral infection, beeswax is taken at least thirty to forty times a day. Preventive use will strengthen the immune system and alleviate the general condition, if infection could not be avoided.
Joint treatment
The ability of this product to relieve pain and inflammation is successfully used in the treatment of radiculitis, arthritis, osteochondrosis, osteomyelitis. Preparations made on the basis of capping can be purchased in pharmacies. The product is applied to a sterile bandage and applied to the site of inflammation for three to four hours.
From smoking
Zabrus helps with smoking cessation. Chewing gum partially replaces smoking cigarettes and over time you can completely break the habit. Additional advantages in this situation are cleansing the respiratory system of toxic substances and alleviating depression.
When losing weight
Zabrus is an integral component of dietary nutrition. It gives the body a feeling of satiety quite quickly. After using it, appetite is noticeably reduced, and the need for sweets disappears.
For those who have a goal to lose weight, regular use of bee medicine is necessary. The substance provides the body with energy and vigor, increases efficiency. Saliva production is activated, metabolism is accelerated, toxins are removed.
Callus removal
Mix 60-80 grams of capping with a small amount of lemon juice and achieve a uniform consistency using a water bath. Use the resulting composition as a cream, applying it to the callus and covering with a gauze bandage. After two days, steam the callus and remove it with a sharp object.
Instructions
The high efficiency of the beneficial action of the wax seal is explained by three points:
- Ease of use.
- The non-necessity of the effect of gastric juice on monosaccharides.
- Rapid absorption through the mucous membranes into the blood.
The cappings are chewed until the sweet taste disappears completely. For a preventive course, a tablespoon per day is enough, which is used in small portions every 5-6 hours.
You can prepare balls of approximately 4 grams in advance and take them as needed. The duration of the course and dosage are calculated based on the individual characteristics of the person and the specifics of the disease.
The medicine reduces appetite, so it should be taken after meals. For people who want to get rid of extra pounds, a piece of bee medicine can easily replace candy or sweet pastries.

The ingredients are heated in a water bath. After the wax has completely dissolved, add crushed propolis wrapped in gauze. It can be frozen in the freezer for about 20 minutes and grated. It can be ground in a coffee grinder. Keep on the fire for another half hour. After cooling, the composition is ready.

Cappings for acne
The capping is also used to treat acne and improve the general condition of the skin. Traditionally, the best remedy for this purpose is masks that are applied to the face 2-3 times a week.
If the disease progresses rapidly, the application of the mask should be supplemented by chewing the substance 2-3 times a week 15 minutes before meals.
There are two main recipes for a mask made from capping wax:
- 100 grams of cappings are melted in a water bath until a homogeneous thick composition is formed, which is cooled to room temperature and applied to the face for 10-15 minutes. This mask is used for treatment and prevention in the vast majority of cases;
- If there are a lot of pimples on the face and the condition of the skin leaves much to be desired, the composition should be modified. For this purpose, mix a teaspoon of capping wax, half a teaspoon of aloe vera, and a third of a teaspoon of honey. Add 100 grams of water to the mixture, and mix the resulting mixture in a water bath until it becomes a uniform mass. Apply the mask for half an hour, then wash off the mixture and treat the skin with calendula tincture;

Almost all children love bee caps. The product has a very pleasant taste and aroma. The dosage depends on age characteristics:
- from birth to two years – use is not recommended;
- from two to six years old – a single dose is equal to a quarter of a small spoon;

Is there an allergy to capping wax?
Perhaps there is such an opinion that the capping causes allergies. However, in most cases this is not so, the benefits and harms of bee capping are absolutely predictable. Not only does the capping not cause allergies, it is prescribed as a medicine against allergic reactions.
For those people who are allergic to plant pollen, capping can be used as a medicine that relieves the symptoms of allergic reactions.
In spring, during the flowering period of the plant or tree that causes you allergies, chew the cappings. And it is better to start a course of prevention with beeswax shortly, 2-3 weeks before the flowering.
If an allergic reaction occurs from chewing the capping, it will be minor. And soon after a few days of taking it, the allergy will disappear completely, since the capping contains very little pollen, and the allergy sufferer’s body simply gets used to the insignificant concentration of the allergen.
Just by chewing the cappings you can combat allergies. And if the allergic reaction is severe, chewing beeswax will significantly reduce the symptoms.
If you are not sure whether you should regularly take zabrus as a folk remedy, then consult a doctor about this in order to be guided by the authoritative opinion of the doctor and never make mistakes.
